Maui 11-09

Aloha All!  Here is the short but sweet visit to the Island of Maui for an after Thanksgiving show.  Just  by co incidence Jason and Becky got married the week before and the happy newlyweds were spending a glorious week after with family.  Gary and Sarah live in Tahoe and have hosted my family many times.  Its nice to see friends out and about especially in really big moments in life.  They stopped by again only to have me paint a commission of their beach where they got married.  I took the photo from their  camera and made a special seascape painting from it.  There's nothing like creating a painting that will make a time and impression for the rest of their lives.  As this is written they are back home looking back at the fabulous time they had during their stay...

Ryan and Clarissa were also on their honeymoon.  They spent time at Haleakela and had a nice picture of it in their camera as well.  Just my luck because I really didn't know what I was going to paint and seeing the photo brought back memories of when We went up there at 3:30am just barley making the sunrise as it burst through the clouds.  They got this painting as a living reminder of their honeymoon.  We had a fun time as they watched their painting being created right before their eyes. Once again art has reminded me how special a place like Maui makes a honeymoon destination.  I will finish their painting in the studio and have it sent to them for their own piece of Maui.

These folks from Arizona were spending their last day in Maui when they saw the surfboard of "Creating Life" in the background.  They are redoing a game room and thought that this piece of art would make a unique addition.  We came up with the idea of doing the image "Divine Creation" which we are holding as the surfboard.  Since this was a new surfboard design they will get #1/25 artist proof!  You have to visit me at the show to get these incredible specials.  I like to meet those folks who collect art as I travel.  I look forward to seeing a picture of it hanging soon one day.

WI like to take a sunset break and watch the sun setting behind Lanai as we gently sail around Lahaina.  The "Scotch Mist" has a really nice sail around that time and both Chuck and Jessie join me for a few stolen moments around one of the most picturesque views of the islands.

The front of the boat has a really nice perspective about it.  I do these dock paintings where one seems like they can step out onto the water.  Here we get the same view but the scenery changes.  Like all good ideas they have probably been done before but as they say in Turkey, "It's my turn!"  Ideas are just one part of the painting and the execution and life experience behind it are the other factors.  I can't wait to see what comes of these really inspiring pictures.

Just a few moments out here is the ever changing view.

It's hard to put into words how peaceful it is to see this view.  Silence is the only explanation for this majestic beauty.

Here the last glow of the day fades quickly behind the tip of Lanai.  You can see the sharp drop off the tip of the island.

Well as I said the trip was short and sweet.  I hung around to finish some paintings and leave them behind as displays.  If you get a chance check out some of the art inspired by the views and excursion on Maui.  See you at the next show!

Here is a painting inspired by the last sail I was on.  It's title fittingly is "Never a Bad Day in Maui" :)
