Day or night person?

What kind of music do you listen to to get you inspired?

I often get asked what kind of music I listen to when I paint.  Music is a driving force in my creative process.  Early in my career I listened to classical music as it was what I heard in the galleries and I wanted to keep that experience of looking at great works of art in my head while creating.  I then went through romantic ballads, pop music, ska, reggae, high energy and what ever mood I was into.  I got into a creative phase where I sought out eclectic sounds from Aboriginal techno to chill house music. Then there was a Napster phase where I revisited ever song I ever knew. Now with the advent of the internet I have about 100 stations on Pandora. I have come full circle with classical music with a side of Jazz as my musical choice.  Whats yours?

When are you at you're best?

Are you a day or night person?  As far as I can remember I have always been a night person.  When I was in elementary school I dreaded the 8pm bedtime. As I got into jr. high and high school I stayed up later and later. In college it was many late nights that inspired my last minute heroics.

As a professional artist theres something I love about knowing that the world is sleeping and that there is no distractions to interrupt the creative process.  I feel most productive at this time.  After a while I felt like I tried to fit in and be normal so I tried to keep bankers hours. Although there is something to be said about being in the same time sync with everyone I feel thats not for me.  I like to take advantage of the perks of being an artist and that is working on my own time.  It produces more fruitful results for me and I get a feeling of satisfaction knowing I gave it all at the end of the day.  How about you?
